Driven by the internet, new concepts such as the sharing economy and Industry 4.0 are challenging existing business models. At the same time, competitors from emerging markets are increasingly disrupting markets that have been the reserve of companies from developed countries. Demographic changes also place new demands on established business leaders. Members of Gen Y and Millenials are being recruited and question existing leadership principles.

Big companies need the dynamic, open culture that exists in many small and medium-sized enterprises. The German language program “Management 2030” looks at coping with cultural changes, adopting more network-based thinking, and honing managers’ global intelligence skills.

Dorothea Walter (Program Director)

After more than 10 years in International Education and international project management, Dorothea’s interests revolve around communication in organizations, mindfulness and positive psychology in management, self-leadership, and entrepreneurial processes. She’s enthusiastic about researching new educational opportunities. Having earned an M.A. in Literature and International Political Science, and a PhD in American Literature, Dorothea has taught Humanities as Associate Professor in Higher Education in Washington State before being contracted by Microsoft as an Instructional Developer. Here, she designed high-end course curricula, e.g. for the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator program, Microsoft Education etc. Most recently, Dorothea served as Academic Program Director at the University of California Santa Barbara Professional Education, where she oversaw all international and executive education programs.


Professor Dr. Mark Ebers (Program Director)

is an ESMT visiting lecturer and professor of business administration, corporate development and organization, at Universität zu Köln, Germany, since 2004. Previously, he served on the faculties of Universität Augsburg (1994-2004) and Universität Paderborn (1992-94). He has been Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Hebrew University, Jerusalem (2012 and 2013), visiting scholar at the Columbia University in New York (2008 and 2009), international visiting fellow at the Advanced Institute of Management in the UK (2006 and 2007), visiting professor at Tilburg University (2004), Harvard Business School (2002), Harvard University (1997), and Bocconi University (1996). In 1989/90 he was a John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University. He received his doctorate in business administration and his habilitation from Mannheim University.

His research focuses on the governance of inter-organizational relations. His current work explores how actors' social capital impacts inter- and intra-organizational learning and innovation.


Professor Dr. Sven Litzcke

is an ESMT visiting lecturer and professor of human resource management and business psychology at Hochschule Hannover (Germany) and scientific director and lecturer in the ESMT Leadership & HR program. He received his Diploma (FH) in Public Administration from the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences in Cologne, his Diploma in Psychology from Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg and his Doctorate from Eberhard-Karls-University Tübingen. His research focuses on Human Resource Management and Counterproductive Work Behaviour.


Professor Dr. Detlef Schoder

is an ESMT guest lecturer and professor and chairs the Department of Information Systems and Information Management and is director of the Institute for Broadcasting Economics at the University of Cologne, Germany. He is member of the board of, an award winning start-up for individualized media print and online. He was appointed reviewer to the German Parliament’s Lower House for e-Commerce issues and is consultant to the European Commission. Recently, he became one of three revisors of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Germany’s biggest science foundation. He was Visiting Scholar at Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, and MIT where he established research collaboration which still continues. His research interests and project focus on the economics and management of telecommunications in organizations, especially Electronic Commerce/ Electronic Business, Mass Customization, and Social Media, in particular the Web. He was granted patents on „Individualized printed newspapers“.

Professor Schoder studied business administration in Germany at the universities of Munich and Passau. He obtained both his PhD and Habilitation (Higher Doctorate) from the University of Freiburg, Germany. He was awarded a grant by the ‘German National Merit Scholarship Foundation’ (‘Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes’). Professor Schoder has worked not only in Germany, but also in the U.S.A., Republic of Kazakhstan, and Japan.

From 2001-2003 he served as appointed DaimlerChrysler Fund Chair of Electronic Business in the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany at WHU – Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management, one of Germany’s foremost business schools. There, Detlef Schoder received the "WHU Best Teaching Award SS 2004 - Bester Professor (Ehrenpreis)". In the mid 90’s, he conducted one of Europe’s largest empirical studies on Web-based electronic commerce. He was awarded “Reviewer of the Year” by “zeitschrift für betriebswirtschaft”, one of leading academic journals in the German speaking region and the “Innovation Award” by the German Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI). Also, he won the national competition “Multi Media Award” by the German Federal Ministry of Economics. Recently, he was ranked among the Top250 Management researchers in the German-speaking region bei Handelsblatt, a prominent German business newspaper.


Professor Dr. Uta Wilkens

is an ESMT guest lecturer and professor of Human Resources and Work Process Management as well as director of the Institute of Work Science at the Ruhr University Bochum. Since the winter semester of 2008/2009, she has also been Vice-rector for teaching, learning and media at the Ruhr University Bochum. In 2012 she was elected member of the executive board for the university's excellence project "Research School Plus". Uta Wilkens is a member of several research groups and responsible for a number of DFG research projects as well as for projects of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Her main interests are in the areas of competence assessment and skills management, employability, new employment arrangements and psychological contract relationships, change management and personnel management.
